Wheat Production in World and Pakistan:

Pakistan is located in South Asia with varying terrain from arid to semi-arid lands. The annual precipitation in Pakistan is about 250 mm which is too normal.

Overview of Wheat Production in Pakistan

It has a wide range of products with improved production technology.

Water Use Efficiency (WUE)

Water Use Efficiency (WUE) is the ratio of aboveground biomass or economic yield to water use or evapotranspiration (ET) at the harvest field level. Typically, the water use or ET is measured throughout the growing season. Mediterranean climatic regions, where crops grow on current rainfall and there is no runoff or deep drainage from the soil, use growing-season rainfall as a useful measure of crop water use.

Using WUE, stomatal conductance, and photosynthesis as screening tools, distinguishable fungal effects can be predicted. Cultures scientists express and measure the effectiveness of water use as a relationship between total biomass or grain yield and water supply or evapotranspiration or daily or seasonal sweating.

Increasing Water Use Efficiency

Improving irrigation has a greater potential to increase WUE in South Asia since irrigation is massively used in the region. Two ways to increase WUE in irrigation are by improving the delivery of irrigation water to the crop and by improving the utilization of water by the plant once it has been delivered.

WUE for yield is often equated in a simplistic manner with drought. Reduced WU, which is reflected in higher WUE, is generally achieved by plant traits and environmental responses that reduce YP. Improved WUE on the basis of reduced WU is expressed in improved yield under water-limited conditions only when there is a need to balance crop water use against a limited and known soil moisture reserve.

Water Use Efficiency and Yield

Water efficiency is the simplest way to assess whether performance is restricted by water supply or other factors and is reflected as a vital element of adaptation to conditions of deficient water.

In conclusion, Wheat production in Pakistan is one of the largest productions in the world where water use efficiency plays an important role in its production. Increasing water use efficiency through improved irrigation techniques can lead to further growth in wheat production in the region.
